You either know or you specify what the gas is after each number. See my section on gas mixing and tank marking at wkpp.org. Forget anything you have ever heard other than this, and you will not make any mistake. For instance, if my tank says "11X65" , I know it is 11% oxygen because there is no purpose in 11% helium. I don't make 20% helium mixes, either. If the gas is nitrox, it merely needs the number and percent, like "35%". If I am making a gas that has reasonable numbers for both gasses, I will mark it something like "xxx helium, xxx oxygen" to make it perfectly clear. This is encountered more in deco gases than in diving gasses, but if it is close, like 35/30, you need to write 35 whatever and 30 whatever. Don't make little rules that will kill you . This is like the IANTD insanity of identifying gases by which side of the body they are on. I knew right away what Karla was diving. -----Original Message----- From: Diverkate@ao*.co* [mailto:Diverkate@ao*.co*] Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2002 9:45 PM To: trey@ne*.co* Subject: A potential danger re: standard deco thread In a message dated 2/16/2002 8:05:56 PM Eastern Standard Time, girvine@be*.ne* writes: 35/20 mix?! George, You might want to clarify that Karla described her mix in the wrong order (O2 should be stated first, then helium), lest any beginners get the wrong idea! If they see you ignoring that, they might start making the same mistake. I'm not suggesting that you would be held responsible, but some idiot following it blindly . . . best regards, Kathy ------=_NextPart_000_0004_01C1B77D.E9F7A300 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.50.4522.1800" name=3DGENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY> <DIV><SPAN class=3D383252611-17022002><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2>Kate,=20 I don't like rules as to what gas goes first and what tanks go where - = that is=20 IANTD bullshit.
