I would strongly second Scott Cherf suggestion of an Iodine based compound. We use wescodyne, both in the lab and at home (homebrewing). I think the cost is about $48/gal. There is an enormous difference in the sterilizing breadth of iodine over chlorine. In particular, hepatitis is not killed by chlorination and since 4 viral particles are enough to infect a healthy adult, it doesn't take much. Chlorine is cheaper, but is it worth it?
