The manual that came with my suit recommended a dilute soap mix (I think
it was 1 part soap 4 parts water) or pure talc.  I've heard that the
problem with silicon isn't accelerated seal decay, it's supposed to
contaminate the fabric around the seal, making it more difficult to
get a good bond when you replace them or have to patch a leak.
