Hello, the Apeks Freeflow Control Device has two components: one is the air on-off control connected between the 2nd stage of the regulator and the low pressure hose, the other is the excess-pressure valve connected to a free low pressure port of the 1st stage. A freeflow may occur for several reasons. The FCD is usefull only when there is a problem with the 2nd stage (like a foreign body blocking the valve or freezing of the 2nd stage). If there is a problem with the 1st stage (e.g. freezing, wrong maintenance, intermediate pressure too high etc.) the FCD does not help, one must still close the cylinder valve. Perhaps it can be used for some very specific requirements, but for standard configurations there are better ways to avoid or deal with freeflow problems.
