Those things break before you get a chance to freeflow. I can not imagine
what you guys are doing to freeze regs. They should have the IP turned down
and the second stage set so that it will not freeflow. I have only been able
to freeze a reg in the air, and that was a SP MK G250.

(I tried the shutoffs , but this is really dangerous. You can forget what
position it is in and pass a dead reg, go to it yourself in a pinch and have
it be off, or have the thing get stuck or the o-rings leak. When you try to
switch second stages underwater ( which is how we deal with reg screwups),
there is a little piece that gets stuck in the reg.

I thought I was losing gas on RB dives , so I tried them, and then realized
how dumb that was. Turning down the pressure and setting the second to a non
hair trigger state is the best answer.

George,
thanks for the info on the D400. It's obvious that I should stay away from
it.
Since we are on the equipment topic, what's your opinion on the Apeks FCD
(Freeflow Control Device)? It's supposed to be a little manual slider
installed between the second stage and its hose, which would allow for
second stage isolation during major freeflow. Do you think it adds any
practical value to cold-water diving?
Thanks again and Merry Christmas.
George

Try taking it apart underwater to clear it. Try breathing it other than on
land in an upright position. This is the worst piece of shit ever made (
other than the "Air One" that these morons used to make).

In a recent posting, I read that the D400 is not
recommended as a stage reg for "well known reasons."
Could someone elaborate on this? Perhaps as a more
general question, what are the pros and cons of a D400
second stage and how does it compare to a reg such as
the G250?
Thanks and Happy Holidays.
George
