Jeff, thanks.

When I started off diving, I got the purchasing manager at my fathers
company to order me gear from Scuba Pro. It consisted of a plastic backplate
harness, a reg with one second stage, and a pressure gauge ( and a tank ). I
was into fishing, so was freaked about the sharks and only did shallow dives
to get lobsters and change props on the boat an such, get the anchor back
etc.

I bought the Navy dive manual to learn from. Giant manual, about two
sentences that need to be known ( one about ox tox and co2). Eventually, I
could not get my tanks filled anymore without getting certified. I had
started doing more diving and dove at Walkers Cay, which hooked me on
diving.

Now it was for real, but I knew nothing. I took a course and saw how little
information there was. My instructor told me it was bullshit and told me to
look elsewhere for info. I did, exhaustively. He also told me to rent gear
until I figured out what worked.

What pisses me off so badly about the dive industry is that there is little
or no information in one place, the information that is there is wrong, and
the gear is a sucker's game.

Knowing how much I love diving and how badly I wanted information, I know
that others are in the same boat and I am more than glad to be able to point
them in the right direction, and save them money and disappointment.

Then there is the issue of all that I learned along the way - that is now
most important, and I knew that as soon as I realized just how dangerous
this sport really can be.

I feel like I can't stop doing this (providing info), but at least now there
is JJ's GUE, which solves the problem for those who want the problem solved.
Then there are the other agencies for those lined up behind the Lion, the
Tin Man , and the Scarecrow looking for what they were looking for.

Merry Christmas,
I would just like to say how much I appreciate the information shared on
these lists.
George your endeavours to educate us is tireless.
How you find the time to do all you do is beyond me, but I am so glad you
do, thanks.
Also thanks to JJ as always, and to Pina for updating the site.
I am over here in Darwin, Australia (fairly isolated!) and the knowledge I
have gained over the years thro' these forums has changed my philosophy and
gear set-up.
In addition, the knowledge of DIR has introduced me to the DIR network of
divers here in Australia, and given me the opportunity to dive with some of
them.
Their is a silent majority who consume the knowledge you share with us.
All the best,
Jeff the Darwinian.
