Hi Andy- When your bulk cylinders are running low or you need to swap them out for fresh cylinders (e.g., in preparation of a deep dive) it is common that individuals throw helium into extra scuba cylinders for later use so that one does not waste the helium. Sometimes you throw some into the 50/50 bottles, or spare AL80s, etc. However, you *must* take extra precaution in what you are doing. Always label contents so a month or two down the road you know exactly what is in that spare AL80 that you rarely use. The bottom line is this, never ever ever breath anything if you are not 100% sure of what is in the cylinder. When in doubt, dump it. Trust no one. This includes yourself if you solely depend on memory and not accurate labeling, etc. Cheers, Mike Michael C.
