We had been blown out by a hurricane for the last two months. The only additions to this report are that JJ and I took full exp gear including MIni Mee to B Tunnel with Barry to be sure everything was working properly with the new RB's , scooters , cameras , lights, etc. and so that we could bet some staged pass by shots for TV. We did this in the first three rooms in B which keeps us within 1000 feet of the door in high outflow. I dove with Pina on Sunday at Sally Ward. The decompression study were are doing places recording gauges on each diver .. The diver writes down the run time when each gas change is made. Gauges are turned back in to the guys doing the study and they record that and check the diver ( Doppler, blood, exam, whatever). This study will go on until we have enough hard data to publish proof of what I have been saying and doing for ten years, and should quell the constant quacking of the ducks out there who still are trying to find some hole in the obvious. -----Original Message----- From: Casey McKinlay [mailto:mckinlay@ta*.rr*.co*] Sent: Monday, November 05, 2001 11:34 PM To: Egroups Cc: anthony rue; Doug Lewis Subject: [wkpp] Wakulla - Nov 3-4 Wakulla Springs - November 3-4 A huge thanks to everyone who helped out this past weekend. It was good to get the team back together and work off some of the rust before we crank things up for the winter. Conditions in the main conduit were less than optimal despite a top notch forecast from a friend of mine's sister. (inside joke) A-tunnel visibility was 30-40ft with some clear patches of water between 2,200ft and 3,500ft reported by the OC team of Werner and Cole. B-Tunnel flow was extremely high with some tannic water intrusion reported by Jablonski and Irvine. D-Tunnel flow was also up slightly compared to normal but clear as usual and Sally Ward Spring had a strong outflow and some tannic intrusion with 60-70ft of visibility in the Cube Room. While the main focus of the weekend was to gauge conditions, the WKPP managed to accomplish a variety of tasks for some of the local water agencies as well as some housekeeping. Saturday Setup began at 8am Sat. morning with divers placing decompression gases for the 3 OC teams and RB team. In addition, the NWFWMD flow meter was replaced and the new 130ft trough repositioned to a more optimal location. Thanks to Mark Garland, David Rhea and David Sweetin for the meter and trough work as well as Cathie Neel, Mark McCarty and Chris Elmore on placement of the 190 and 120ft decompression gasses. The remaining decompression gas and gear was placed by the all purpose team of Moore, Pellar and Maiker. Thanks to Heather for keeping things on schedule in the morning and Chris Elmore for running the surface through the afternoon. Thanks to Curtis "The Polar Bear" Baldwin, Pina, Doug, Alex and Bjarne for assisting with setup, support and cleanup. You guys had everyone packed up and gone by 4pm. OC Team 1 (Lais, Rose, McKinlay) traveled to 2,200ft to check existing safeties. Pulled one safety and continued on to the first main room in D-Tunnel to pull 3 water samples for McGlynn Labs. Bill handled the samples while John and I hovered and enjoyed the view. Incredible tunnel and crystal clear. Once the samples were stowed, the team returned to A-Tunnel and stopped at 1,400ft to check the safety depot, pulling 2 aged bottles for recharge. OC Team 2 (Cole and Werner) traveled A-Tunnel to 3,500ft to check safety tanks and gather water samples. The team reported all tanks in working order, took 3 water samples and exited. The team also reported extremely high outflow and pockets of clear and tannic water between 2,200ft and 3,500ft. with large pockets of tannic water towards the ceiling, OC Team 3 (Baxter, Lennon and MacElhannon) traveled to B-Tunnel and C-Tunnel for samples and did a perfect job returning with 6 samples total. Great job guys. RB Team 1 (Jablonski and Irvine) chose to slightly modify the high quality plan from the coordinator's office and travel to B-Tunnel to gain additional bottom time on the new Halcyon RB80 rebreathers. Barry Miller traveled with the team on OC to video. Jarrod and George reported high flow and greenish water. Sally Ward Team - Roberson, Blitch and Gordon handled clearing the restriction and gathered 3 water samples from the Cube Room. Sunday Team divers Pellar and Moore made quick work of a lost stage bottle search in the Grand Canyon Room at Wakulla. The team retrieved one of McKinlay's stage bottles that swam away at the 190ft decompression switch on Saturday. Great job guys and the surface support was top notch. The remaining team members did additional dives at Sally Ward Spring and Cathedral near Live Oak. Thanks to all who assisted this past weekend and again, it was good to get everyone out and see the team out at dinner. I plan to follow this up with some comments on team procedures that need some work before the next outing. This coming weekend Nov. 10-11 is cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date once conditions improve. I estimate 3-4 weeks.
