The rebreather is a gas extension device and it keeps you warmer on long dives than open circuit. I am doing 5-7 hour bottom times scootering with water flowing over me and then 8 hours of decompression in water. The RB not only turns an aluminum 80 stage bottle into 800 cubic feet of gas, it means that I only have to put in safety bottles , not stages, to dive long distance, and can keep diving over the same bottles for months. But when I do any other type of dive, Karla, I use open circuit because it is safer and more fun. Even the RB 80 which the WKPP uses is a death sentence if you screw up , although it is a lot harder to screw up than on a sensor-based device. I don't even practice on my RB, I only point it if I am planning on pulling the trigger, so to speak. -----Original Message----- From: Dogtrner1@ao*.co* [mailto:Dogtrner1@ao*.co*] Sent: Tuesday, September 25, 2001 8:06 PM To: techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: Rebreathers Ok, question. If rebreathers are, according to George so dangerous, why does George and WKPP use them? What is the benefit of taking obvious dangerous chances? Not being smart, just curious.
