I'd say that it is time to fight fire with fire.

I remember when the russians had some people kidnapped in Lebannon quite a
few years ago. Their spetnaz killed a heap of the local fundamentalists
with the promise of many more to come. Result was that all the russian
hostages were released unharmed asap.

The british negotiated for how long before Terry Waite was released?

You tell me which method worked?
