Just wondering...... On most mail readers, "Reply" replies to the sender, "Reply-all" replies to everyone - including the mailing list the mail went to. So if one wants to reply to the group, the easy-and-lazy thing to do is hit "reply-all". The mail goes to the list and the sender. Then the next person response the say way to THAT mail, and mail goes to the original sender, the list, and whoever else might have also replied in the thread. People just keep collecting on the CC line. I do this too, I'm not pointing any fingers. What users *should* do is to edit the To and Cc lines to reflect just the mailing list. The solution some like (though many of us HATE) is to have the mailing list configured such that all mail comes though with a "Reply-To" field set to the mailing list address (techdiver@aquanaut.com), so that when you hit "Reply", instead of the sender, you get it addressed to the mailing list. This sounds like a good idea, but then when I go to respond directly to you, it STILL goes to the whole list. Traffic goes up, and we're all suddenly having personal conversations on the list. It's annoying to get several copies of some mail, but the "Reply-To" method is worse. -Karl, mailing list geek -- Karl Elvis MacRae VLSI CAD Apple Computer kmac@ap*.co* -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
