Actually I think the test you are referring to was done by NASA for the
Johnson Space Center and they used Nitrox 50 rather than pure O2, and while
contaminated, the regs weren't exactly gummed to the gills with silicone.
It does show that many are too concerned about how clean a reg must be to be
used with Nitrox up to 50% O2.  I have a copy of the text on a web page of
