No, you don't need it. It is a new program based not on the Haldanian dissolved gas model, but on a new theory called the Varying Permeability Model (VPM) This new program doesn't care about tissue loading per se, but instead works by controlling bubble radius. (My understanding ... corrections/clarifications are welcome and encouraged) If you download the PDF papers at the same site you can read more about it (Some of these papers are very heavy, bubble head stuff <g> The GUIs for this new algorithm are just starting to make their appearance now. If I understand it correctly, while the model obviously works the msecond you start the dive, it is of most benefit on monster He/mixed gas dives. For air/nitrox stuff I don't think there's a big difference, or requirement for it. The few simple rec type dives I have plugged in to VPlanner don't seem to be THAT different to Decoplanner and you'd expect that, after all our bodies haven't magically assumed a new gas removal process just because of VPlanner ! ;-). On the monster dives the differences can be quite significant. IMHO the shortcomings that have been progressively discovered in the Buhlman/Haldane model (such as referred to in page 105 of the GUE Tech Manual) become more of an issue for tech dives, rather than rec type Nitrox dives. regards *** dean laffan real world productions melbourne, australia ph +613-9419-3966 Mobile - 0418-525-315 It said on the box: 'Requires Windows 95 or better' ... so I bought a Mac ! -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
