I was wondering if someone was going to have an unpleasant response! I have taking a couple of TDI courses, from specific instructors, not TDI as far as I'm concerned. My concern with TDI is not the syllabus or the published course standards, its more that the organization is such that just about anyone could take and pass one of their courses. In many countries, there is not much choice, and the TDI instructors I've been in contact with have high personal standards, to the point of rejecting some of the idiocy from HQ. Of course, the same can be said about PADI (from which I've also taken courses), its just that the opportunity presented itself to pick on someone other than the usual object of derision. Personally, I feel that once you get beyond basic open water, the only way to learn is to teach yourself as much as possible, and then find an instructor with a stellar rep to fill in the blanks, show you what you got wrong, and smooth out the rough edges. Relying on a 3 or 4 day course to teach you much of anything is foolhardy.
