Well, why do skydivers jump out of perfectly good airplanes? A calculated
risk to be sure.

I have commented against 1.6 PP02 bottom mix nitrox dives for years and get
my monkey slapped every time by the "experts" (otherwise known as nitrox
instructors). Personally I like to keep my bottom mix as low as practicable
(1.1 or so) and then do a deco on a somewhat higher mix. Many divers look at
me like I am nuts for doing this, I guess because it means a few more
minutes of deco.

But as I've said before in technical diving the thing that scares me the
most is the PPO2 and oxtox and if I feel the least bit strange, the
slightest twinge, I go to the back gas. I don't care if I've been on 02 for
2 or 10 minutes. I think it is good to have a back gas break schedule of 15
or 20 minutes, but the decoing diver needs to be very conscious of his or
her physical demeanour while at the high PP02's and back off quickly and
without hesitation, even if it means a few more minutes of overall deco
time.

  Jim

Subject: The Seizure

All
I am really reluctant to jump in after reading this list for over a year,
but since I can't get anyone to respond directly, here goes. Why are we
doing something, that has been identified over a decade ago as I'll advised
i.e. breathing 100% 02 in the open ocean, and particularly not using a full
face mask ? DIR or not, there are other less risky ways to deco. No flames,
just respond if you are inclined.

Thanks
JWS
