Yes, I was talking about "tinkering", not using RB per se. The guy in Sand Diego had a RB that he had modified, and there have been others who designed fancy gas block systems and what not that are dead now. My feeling on this is that you should keep the gas stuff simple and not tinker with it. I like to tinker as well, but I make sure it isn't with the breathing supply. I've got a small boat, lots of tinkering there, and I occasionally do some tinkering with other parts of my dive gear. For example, the Pro 6 EE light is only a few pounds negative in the water. To make it more useful as ditchable weight, I've added some lead inside the canister to make it more negative. Also, I've found that the 18 watt light head scares some critters away (too bright), so I've made a little cover for it out of milky plastic that yellows the light and reduces the intensity. It can be easily snapped on and off, in case more light is needed. Anyway, I think this kind of tinkering is OK, and probably won't kill you. Tinkering with a RB or with Gas blocks OTOH is just asking for it, IMO. Cheers.
