Ed, not intended as a flame but it seems from the past 2 questions about around the neck strangulation and surgical tube ditching make me think that you probably listened to someone who didn't know the first thing about DIR and you didn't check it out for yourself. I too was not initially at all DIR, pretty much the opposite. I have to say that the questions you are asking never even entered into my mind when deciding if DIR rigging was right or not. It's a really simple set up, that's the point! No fancy clips to undo on the BC, no excessive lift, no backup BS when not needed, no snag points, etc. Really wish you had actually looked into the rigging yourself vs. just listening to someone. Would be really interesting to know who was the person who "enlightened" you about DIR. If you listen to what people are telling you here you will quickly realize that the person who told you all these things about why DIR is wrong didn't know what they were talking about at all!!!
