Aldo, This is covered in Buddy Skills 101 taught in any GUE course. New OW divers are taught the buddy system by the rec agencys but don't have the necessary skills or experience to implement it. At some point as they gain experience they seem to think that buddy skills are just for beginners and end up "solo diving together" to give the impression of buddy diving. As the dives become more technical and demanding no increase in buddy skills takes place because of ego problems or laziness. The tech agencys (other than GUE) perpetuate this and teach (read, "sell") all sorts of convoluted equipment to "handle" any problem that may come up. This is why these guys look like SciFi monsters with crap hanging all over the place. Patrick Norris just had an excellent post on DIR- and not one mention of equipment or configuration. You can't buy attitude. C. Chris Elmore -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
