Scott, the fact that you think you "need" permission is the problem. It doesn't matter who the organisation is IANTD, TDI, NAUI, GUE ... whatever. If you are utilising them for training, advice and information on which your LIFE depends, that is all the "permission" you need to rigorously question any, and all, advice you receive. If they cannot back it up with facts .... it's probably not right. As an astute man once pointed out to me: While the Internet at large is often criticised as a poor source of accurate information, mailing lists are a different beast. Lists as (comparatively) vocal and aggressive as TD and GUE are great bullshit filters. Any idea or position is prone to challenge and if you are not able to back it up, it's right there for the whole list to see. Only the true, correct and logical positions are defendable ... the rest is quickly assessed as bluster and bullshit. btw I'm not saying you were talking bs, my point was that a certain healthy lack of respect is a good thing. It's not about reputations, time in the industry, or who you are/were it's purely about whether your position is defendable/right/logical. Shit, If someone's been around that long they should have it figured out by now. Which btw (to return to the thread) Jim Cobb has done nothing but post facts and ask (hell ! even taunt ;-) people to prove him wrong, result ? .... nothing but silence from the cheap seats. regards *** dean laffan real world productions melbourne, australia ph +613-9419-3966 Mobile - 0418-525-315 It said on the box: 'Requires Windows 95 or better' ... so I bought a Mac ! -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
