OK, Dr. Black, Tom Mount, it's time for you to teach us. When you are working up your dives with Decoplanner or other tables programs which use "conservation factors" how do you fellows determine what these factors are? In Decoplanner both ends of the gradient are adjustable, the variances you can apply to a profile are practically infinite. Dr. Black, being a man of Science, surly you must have a thoughtful answer to this question? Pray tell us, oh learned ones, how you fellows determine how to adjust this profile? Clearly you think my technique is either inadequate or completely wrong. So could you tell the list how you calculate your gradients or "conservation" factors? Tom, how did you know that you needed the "less conservative" VR-3? What if you had gotten bent on the first dive with this unit without trying the "more conservative" VR-3 first? Would this not indicate that you "intentionally" bent yourself, too? Help us poor, dumb, uninformed idiots. Please grace us with your years of experience and thousands of dives. Surely there must be something you fellows can contribute to the common good?
