Hi Frank, I just wanted to thank You for Your comments on bar-calibrated pressure gauges. Believe me, here in northern Europe, the last time I saw a pressure gauge calibrated in psi, was in late '70es. And which is most important, You're the first american diver to admit the superior logic of metric bar/atm/litre-system to anglo-american psi/ft/etc. Even the British adopted metric quite a while back, and they're supposed to be conservative?! I've done some diving in the U.S. (California), and always, trying to explain the advantage of the metric system to diving, gotten those same blank stares. I also read a lot of that exellent literature on technical diving that all seems to be generated in the U.S. Working out the Psi/ft/etc. is sometimes irritating, but on the other hand, it makes sure You really understand what You're reading.. Another thing You can add to Your list, if You still want to defend Your argument to Your buddies, is the fact that hydrostatic pressure in water increases one ATM (practically taken also one bar) per every 10 metres of descend. How's that for calculations needed for nitrox and other mixed gases? Dividing by 10 is easier than by 33... Sorry for waste of bandwidth, but I just had to get this out. I realize I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but still, here it is. My first deep air (50m) of this season coming up on saturday. Yess!! Good dives to everyone, Juha
