I can sort of see Tom's point, not that its a great one. Suppose you plan your tables for a dive on a wreck at 180' but end up spending half your bottom time swimming around the superstructure at 160' or so. Following the tables would not account for the reduced deco time that the computer would be able to calculate on the fly.
