I live in California,and I've dove Farnsworth a bunch of times.  The =
thing I don't understand is the propensity for instructors here in =
California to insist on "Deep Air Training".  If I wanted to dive deep =
on air, I'd just do it.  But why would I want to do that in a MIX =
class??  I'm learning to dive a mixed gas and all the details that go =
along with the and so idiot wants me to first "see what it feels like", =
to what? Be dead?  I'd rather wait on that, thanks.  Why would you trust =
your life to someone who is trying to get you to do someting dumb. "Hey, =
Lets go play tag in the freeway and lunchtime", you'd tell them to go =
push a rope.  "Hey, Lets go to 380' on air", and people can't wait to =
sign up.

The real problem here is that if this crap continues, the government =
will step in and regulate us, and the people doing the regulation won't =
be divers, by definition.

  I'm in a flame war with one of Trey's buddies  ;-), on another list..  =
He is claiming that even though the IANTD website is promoting a =
advanced deep air training that IANTD no longer provides training on air =
to 160' and that any instructor caught teaching air to 160' will loose =
his rating..

  Why don't we start sending the names over to IANTD so they can take =
away all those instructor cards  ;-)

  I could be a good way to get rid of some of the instrokters...

320' on air, with no deco gas..  He had twin 120's and was following his =
computer until it cleared deco..

            The survivor reports seeing him at 290' heading down to the =
anchor at 318'...

              Three of these agencies have "deep air record holders" as =
their presidents: Mouth at IANTD ( whom we have all heard tell students =
that his "personal comfort level on air is 200 feet", Gilliam at TDI who =
broadcasts his love for deep air, and that drooling idiot Hal Watts at =
PSA .=20

              Tolerance of stroke thinking in any form is unacceptable =
to me. I treat them all like the cockroaches that they are, and if =
everyone else did the same, it would eventually become stigmatic to be a =
moron.

              Mike, I would love to dive that bank again, but I can not =
fly out to help you and Johnny Walker due to work. If you find that guy =

                John Walker and I are doing a body recovery tomorrow =
from yet another deep air fatality..

                Facts are reported to me by the USCG..

                Two guys on a private boat go to Farnsworth bank ( =
backside of Catalina).  The plan was for diver 1 to dive first while =
diver 2 stays topside to watch the boat..

                Diver 1 dives to 260' solo on air, when he get's to 10' =
diver 2 gets into the water.

                Diver 2's profile was planned 280', on air, solo and NO =
deco gas..  On top of that he brought his video camera..

                After diver one gets on the boat he doesn't see any =
bubbles and tries to call the USCG but the radio doesn't work.  He later =
flags down another boat and the USCG responds.. =20

                BTW, these guys were trimix certified but chose to do =
this dive on air..  I spoke earlier today with the parents of this 39 =
year old guy and next time anyone tries to defend this kind of idiocy =
I'll have them call the parents of this guy and let them hear the pain =
in their voice...
