Paul, I think I did something similar to Brian, holding the leading edge down with pliers or something similar then using brute force to pull through (bending the webbing as it went, a bit at a time). I may have also weighted the webbing for a while first to form creases, I can't remember. One thing, the leading edge was tapered which would have made threading the first inch or so easier. The webbing I used was very stiff, regular weight belt webbing would have gone through easier.
