In my youth, Dr Black, I, and many of my buddies in the creative world of advertising worked our way through the pharmacopaea, and drank like fish. I ended up drinking heavily - I reckon I'm an alcoholic - even though I was holding down a high-end job and winning awards in a world that you couldn't even imagine. So I stopped drinking ten years ago. Y'know, considering all the fuck-ups and failures out there, I believe I'm especially blessed to have been able to get on top of my problem relatively quickly and relatively painlessly. Because of that, I feel obliged to always be available to help anyone who thinks they might have a drug or alcohol dependency. And the only way to be accessible to others is to be open, honest and forthright about my own problem. Always. Anyone who asks gets a dead straight answer. See, Black, the fact that you think I should be ashamed or would want to keep my past secret says a lot more about you than about me. Obviously, what neither you nor your informant values is the importance of self- critical thought and absolute honesty. Especially when it comes to recognising, facing and solving problems. So if I "have more enemies than I know" as you put it, then I'm very glad to count you and your informant among them.
