The main issues are the water temperature, gas flow and the moisture of the gas. Lakes get colder than seawater and deep lake diving means a high flow of gas. Mix is always drier than compressor air due to the cryogenic source of helium and oxygen. This means, if you dive deep in a lake you've got another reason to dive mixed gas rather than air.
