It is embarrassing. I am scared for those guys. They really are wandering with no information. And of course the diving is just beyond the pale. All the guy had to do is ask anyone how the currents work here, and the dive could have at least been to the wreck instead of the sand, but they were all happy, they got the depth reading and are very proud of themselves for this fine accomplishment. There is a set of ships called the Pfleuger Reef off of Baker's Haulover that we dove a while back that are all ridiculously deep. Those we actually used the float ball to pull us to, but the best way is to drop a pig and scooter it. Only the top of the column is flowing hard, it diminishes with depth, so if you hook it, there is no need to lead it. If you do not, the lead must be a lot less than it appears since you only need to get past the first 150 feet most of the time to get it done. We dive stage bottles so that if we do gauge wrong, we redrop, or we use the pig and the scooters. For the normal stuff up to 300 feet, the ball and grapple with the drift is fine since you do not need the big lead anyway, and the bottom is so well defined that the depth is only the same in a narrow band, so you can find the wrecks pretty easily if they are on the fist few ledges, like 240 or 280. After that you need to have it together. We got an additional ton of practice doing searches for targets that appear on the sidescan sonar maps provided by Broward County, and of course we got a ton or practice the bad way - looking for bodies. -----Original Message----- From: wendell grogan [mailto:docgrog@ya*.de*] Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2001 2:45 PM To: trey@ne*.co* Cc: FLTechDiver@mikey.net; techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: RE: WEB UPDATE I was going to ask you about that. TT had mentioned it on the Dutch DIR group site, but I thought it was just my poor Dutch language skills confusing me. You probably can't say, but I am very curious how you got a hold of it.
