Thanks for all the replies (mostly private) on this. I had a number from people who've had PRK or LASIK and thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. They are regularly diving deep, and one was a diving instructor. I've also had emails from people who are interested in the procedure and were looking for any info I found. Yesterday, I had a chat with a consultant opthalmic surgeon who is working at a leading UK hospital. His research is published and referenced all over the world, including US military and academic papers. He's been involved with refractive eye surgery from the start, and virtually wrote the book on it. He advised that, in my case, PRK/LASEK would be more appropriate than LASIK, especially due to diving, as LASEK is far less invasive a procedure. It has also shown less side-effects than LASIK, such as halos and problems with infection. It has also been performed far more and longer than LASIK (in the form of PRK). Unfortunately, the discomfort after the op is supposed to be far greater than with LASIK and it takes longer for the eye to stabilise the vision :-( So I'm getting one eye treated tomorrow. I've been told no diving for 6 weeks, which will be about time the viz appears in the UK. - h -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
