Shannon: To add to what George said about the Extreme Exposure lights. One of my dive buddies works at the local power plant. For some of their water lines they use the exact same high-density polyethylene tubing material that Extreme Exposure uses for its light canisters. Rob says he has run over that stuff with a D11 Caterpillar without crushing it. It is TOUGH. Try running a big Cat over the DiveRite light canister and see how it survives. Stick with Extreme Exposure. They make the toughest light I have ever seen. I have 5 other primary lights in the garage by other manufacturers that I never touch anymore since I got my Explorer Pro. They thus burn longer and penetrate water better . There are different wattages, and there are different ballasts. Both will effect brightness, more so the ballast. Let's say they are all equal or can be made equal in the above regard. Now you have the rest of the light to deal with . What kind of moron would have a screw on lid light canister? What kind of moron would have a light canister that you can not adjust by moving the hose clamps? What kind of moron would have a non focused beam for anything but video, and then that can be achieve by flooding out the normal hid light. If you have never seen an cave diving light, then the first one you see looks like Haley's Comet, but then as you look around, you see there are huge differences. The EE canister is the correct design for all reasons, and then it is unbreakable as well. The Dive Rite canister is the biggest clusterfuck I have ever seen. I would not plant dope in that canister- it is too stupid to believe, and when you see somebody with it, you know you are dealing with a total neophyte. The EE lights were originally made for the WKPP at the request of me and Jarrod because Bill Gavin quit making lights and nobody else would make them the way we wanted them. The EE light is the choice of the pros made by and for the pros. Anything else can not say that, and there is nothing else that has all the correct features worked out. That is a fact. Do not waste your money. -----Original Message----- From: Shannon Doherty [mailto:rjf232000@ya*.co*] Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2001 9:30 PM To: techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: Lights Other than the non-focusability, which was brought up by Trey, what other problem is there with the Dive Rite HID? I was considering getting a Wreck 1. Dove with someone who was using one once and it seemed great. When weighing the pros and cons of the light, I would think that the longer battery life, brighter light, whiter light, and lower power comsumption would make a good compromise with a slightly more negative canister and non-focusable beam. Probably the type of light you use depends on the diving. I don't have too many caves here, but many wrecks and deep sites. Thanks for your attention!
