Actually, I never did either, althought they slipped if you didn't wet the strap, and had to be tightened just so, but once understood these things it wasn't a big deal. Only thing is , lately the damn things have started shattering on me - the latest being a genuine Halcyon, and low mileage at that, the burst into many pieces on an ice dive. The Halcyon folk tell me this had been a common problem lately - some sort of quality control problem with the one supplier who makes them for everyone.
