This is the IMHO only way to go as you have the chance to start from
scratch. (lucky man) There is no reason at all why not to at least out of a
configuration viewpoint start with a DIR approach.

This will allow you to progress naturally into technical diving as your
experience allows it.
-Start with a backplate, a Halcyon Pioneer or Explorer 38 wing and a single
tank adapter. Breath from the longhose from day one.
-Have the "octopus" bungied under your chin.

I dont know if you dive wet or dry but if you need a pocket you can either
have it on your drysuit or buy a separate pocket for the belt.

which is aimed at the recreational market.
