Adam -- your anti-PADI prejudice is obvious, but let's just discuss som= e reality. =A0And I'll be up front and tell you that I am a PADI MSDT, be= en diving since 1972 (but don't have PADI on my underwear). =A0When I firs= t learned to dive, diving and dive instructors were very macho/militarist= ic. Probably not a bad thing considering the state of dive gear at the time= .. No BC's, no SPG's, fairly crude regs compared to today. =A0The emphasis= on strength and endurance, ditch & don, blow & go, etc. was more appropria= te for the conditions then. =A0But that limited the sport to the macho few= .. As gear improved, it became possible for more people to participate in diving. =A0PADI and other agencies adapted to the market. =A0In fact, i= t can be argued that bringing a lot more participants into diving enabled the ge= ar manufacturers to develop better gear, which enabled more divers, which enabled better gear, and so on. =A0Gear that we all now depend on for m= ore aggressive diving. =A0However, there is an important point which is mis= sing from some of these emails. =A0MOST divers do not want to tech dive. =A0= MOST divers want to enjoy the sport above 90-100 ft., feel safe, be warm, ha= ve great vis, etc. =A0That may not be what you want to do, but that's real= ity. Keep in mind that PADI is an organization that probably has done more t= o promote diving than any other group. =A0So, before attacking PADI, =A0y= ou should remind yourself that the quality of instruction still comes down= to the instructor. =A0After all, when you were taught to drive, you probab= ly were taught to obey the speed limits, but perhaps ... Good diving -- KOB. |------------------------+------------------------+--------------------= ----| | | Adam | = | | | <deepwrecks@ya*.co*| =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 T= o: | | | > | techdiver@aquanau= t.co| | | | m = | | | 03/13/2001 05:36 PM | =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 c= c: | | | | =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 S= ubject: | | | | Re: WARNING - Cof= fee | | | | Alert = | |------------------------+------------------------+--------------------= ----| Hey Todd Do you have PADI written on your underwear? Do you have PADI Instructor= hat? Hey Todd BY THE END OF THIS E MAIL YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DISTINGUISH= BULL SHIT FROM REALITY. If you can't you deserve to be a PADI Instructo= r. PADI is nothing but a moneymaking bullshit that switches with wind and dollar signs. Years ago PADI wanted the dive instruction market so they= manufactured bullshit instructors at PADI collage. So little fat slob instructors that don't know their ass from hole in the ground will make= little divers that do little dives. They closed down the PADI Collage because they did not make enough money. Then PADI changed the dive mast= er in water qualification standards because their fat slob out of shape di= ve master craniates could not swim. Because it was too hard. PADI also sai= d if you dive over 130 feet you will die. They also said Nitrox and Trimix i= s bullshit. Guess what? Now they see there is money to be made they are i= n Nitrox and Technical training. Of course they are going to have flashy bullshit stolen training materials. They constantly screw divers to mak= e money. PADI is in this business to make money.=A0 Basket weaving specia= lty? Common give me a f-break. I wonder if they are going to have Trimix bas= ket weaving specialty?=A0 Don't get me wrong there are excellent PADI instr= uctors out there but unfortunately bullshit ones out number the good ones.
