Subject: Wreck Argon config.RE: Why an OPV on argon?
Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 19:21:30 -0500

The velcroed to the tanks trick is cave, the hip is ocean. Jumping off a
boat with the velco will knock the tank off. I can not believe you got
taught to do that, and using a fixed system to the tank is farm animality.

Just do it the way I have it in the tape for wreck, it is sooooooo easy. I
saw some moron bitching at JJ about his Halcyon velcro straps letting go of
the tank when he jumped in the water from a high boat, and the same idiot
then said his halcyon liftbag broke - when he shot it from 275 feet deep. No
shit.

Hello, Mom? You can not fix stupid, but you can use a flyswatter on the
flies, and save the shotgun for the crack house.

So far Trey's proven right on everything he's written and I've read over the
past four years and on this one I'm going by advice. Of him and of other DIR
divers who have been diving DIR-wreck on the argon. Most divers here, GUE
trained, use the Cave style in Ocean. I use it per DIR II, double bands,
facing down, low on LH backgas tank, single hose, knob left. Now with the
OPV I've ordered (from Apeks and APValves to see which is best). I want to
start to use the wreck style. On one dive a cam band came loose. Nothing
major of course but didn't like that. On another, it was a squeeze situation
and I regretted not being able to easily access/move the bottle behind me.
It seems sound for wreck penetration. As Sean explained, it also permits the
use of a smaller bottle for wreck diving though I have heard people are
easily enough using 1.5 Ltr bottles (the Luxfer's we have over here). Won't
repeat Sean as I'm just learning this style too :-)

One question though, given the "reasons" for the wreck style which I am
tempted to believe in, don't they apply to confined areas in caves too? Do
cavers change placement or is it always there on the LH back?

Best

Izzy
