Psychobabble aside, I have dozed several times when on long decos at the
10-15' stop...especially when you come out of a cave or come up from a long,
deep lake/quarry dive at night, the water's clear, you've been working too
hard (out of the water; for weeks not hours), you can see the moon, and the
bream are not nipping at your cheeks...
Your cylinders roll you onto your back in the shallows, all you can hear is
the hiss of breath; your eyes aren't yellow (thanks, Depends), you feel the
warmth of the water (or your drysuit); the shimmer of the moon through the
ripples makes patterns, a little heat lightning flashes = extreme
relaxation, even naptime.
Actually, one of the biggest frights I've ever gotten in the water was when
a certain buddy of mine (generally very good, but concerned), shook me
violently at a 10' stop in NC after I had been napping for about 10 minutes.
He shook me 'cause he thought I was unresponsive (he was right!), but I
gotta say, I had waaay more gas than he did.......
