On Sunday, Febuary 18, 2001, The Submerged Cultural Resources Exploration Team (http://www.scret.org) officially kicked off a new project aimed at documenting the fallen Tacoma Narrows Bridge with a dive to the wreckage of the old bridge. "Galloping Gertie" as it is known is a significant cultural icon of Washington's history and is well known for its short life spanning the narrows and its awesome demise due to high winds and engineering flaws. The wreckage currently lies in over 200 feet of water in one of the highest current areas in Puget Sound.
