Stefan, Actually, I believe that Bill Stone did use these a while back. Some of the problems were that the tanks would bleed from the pours in the carbon fiber. I also recall that the pressures used are very hard to get from a conventional compressor, but I may be mistaken there. They are smaller and get hold gas at a higher pressure safer, hence why the fire department uses them (so I was told).
