Hi Eric, You can't ditch your canister light with the D ring in the way. I'm curious about the problem with the crotch D ring. Were you using the back one? If so I can't see how it would hang lower than the waist mounted ring. Am I missing something? The front one is primarily to hitch up to the scooter.
