God, I hope not. Got nothing against GUE, and I suppose a lot of the folk on (formerly on?) this list would love to have a DIR-only list, just so everyone can agree and pat each other on the back (though I would thing George would start to get antsy with so much the peace, love and harmony). But I think the constant testing of the DIR principles, which has gone on here on techdiver, as tedious as it often is, is very useful, in examining, clarifying and promogulating those principles. Worse though, is that the net started out as a place for free and open exchange of information, but is gradually being taken over by commercial entities. The newsgroups and the lists are one of the last strongholds of the original net spirit. Techdiver has been, for all its faults (and most of those faults are a necessary, unavoidable byproduct of its virtues) the prime site for discussion of techdiving issues. Allowing this dialogue to move from a free open-to-all list to a paid, by-subscription-only one, owned and controlled, and run as a commercial proposition by a single tech agency/gear vendor, would be a backward step for the techdiving community indeed, no matter how good that agency, or pure its motives.
