'Dr' Black, I usually keep my mouth shut and try to learn from people that know more than I do, but your post requires a few comments. On November 14, I was at a FL spring when your mentor, Bill Rennaker, was spouting off about this 'incident'. Specifically, he said that George slipped on the steps and fell into the water. He went on to say that he located George's regulator and put it in his mouth. Then he went off on a tirade about how 'I saved George Irvine's life and wish I hadn't' and that he should have a t-shirt made saying 'I saved George Irvine and don't know why'. He was having great fun with the whole idea. Being the type of person who doesn't automatically believe such unbelievable tripe without supporting documentation, I went off on my own little search. I recently corresponded with the person who was with George when this happened and I got a more realistic picture. A disclaimer before I continue: I have never met this person, but she appears to be honest and open in explaining her technical diving experience that helps me to be a better diver, so I will take her at her word. In other words, she doesn't seem like an idiot, unlike some medically trained personnel on this list. As the story has been clarified to me, George intentionally rolled into Peacock with his fins in his hands and put them on in the water rather than sitting on the steps and putting on his fins. No accident, no near drowning, no news. BTW, even inexperienced people like me find it quite easy to do this. When you wear a drysuit, you are going to bob around in the water like a cork while you are doing this. Sorry to disappoint you, Dr. Black. If you would open your mind, you might find the DIR way is really quite elegant in its simplicity. Oh, yes. I almost forgot. I know you prefer posts on techdiver to have no misspelled words, and you are quite critical of grammatical inadequacies. Therefore, I beg your forgiveness in advance if I have offended those sensibilities. Other than that, if you really have nothing better to contribute to this list, please STFU. I heard from someone who was there, at Peacock Springs, FL, about two weeks ago, that the DIR Lord and Master himself showed up...slipped, fell, and nearly drowned. I do not know Bill Rennaker and have never spoken to him, but do know that the DIR cultists love to bash him (besides me and many others), and also know that he was one eye witness. If this is true, then can someone also explain the correct DIR method to slip, fall, and nearly drown? MJB >> -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
