Subject: Re: H valves
Just an adendum to my last email, thanks for all the replies sofar. Much
appreciated, will reply privately.

I'm not really sure if I need a dual outlet valve, hence the question. It
would not be difficult, or particularly expensive, to try the H valve
option. Plus I could route the hoses as for doubles (preventing hoses
sticking out all over the place and allowing easy access to valve knobs.

The reason I'm replacing the MK10 is that there is a nick in the grove that
retains the stem O-ring. I have to service my MK10 every few months as the
leak (just a bubble every couple of seconds when first serviced) becomes
quite noticable (stream of bubbles) after a little while. Replacing the
body of the MK10 would probably cost as much as a new Apeks reg and the
Apeks regs are easier to service and maintain (the nick in the O-ring
groove on the MK10 is from a poor service, not suprising though given how
hard it is to reach that particular O-ring). I became a service technician
for Apeks recently and this course confirmed my confidence in the quality
of there regs (got to meet one of the engineers who designed and tested
much of the gear).

The only reason the Scubapro swivel regs work well with single tanks is
that you have the extra port on the bottom. Meaning you can have all hoses
angles away from the valve knob allowing easy access. This is not possible
with the Apeks swivel regs (plus you have the extra O-ring you don't need).
The only other option I've considered is the Apeks flat head first, this
should position the LP hoses well on a single outlet valve but the HP hose
is still sticking out at an odd angle.

I have considered doubles but doubles would add some extra drag and make my
setup harder to handle above the water (wouldn't fit in tank racks, heavy
to load and unload (my back gets enough of a workout as it is :-), etc).
I guess small doubles would be an option but not the best for double dives
(where I'd normally take a second tank). Plus I'd have to spend the extra
dough on a new wing. At present I have a nice, simple, compact setup which
works well for the shallow rec and research diving I do.

Cheers,

Simon
