Terry, > If you don' t think George has the equivalent of a doctorate in extreme > diving, please let me know who does. As has been pointed out, the awarding > of a doctorate does not confer respect. As I understand it a doctor title (PhD) is given to you as an honor for the research you did during your thesis. It may not qualify you to talk about diving. In fact mine does not even qualify me to dive, let alone talking about it. But it is an honor you had to work for several years of your live, getting bad wages no sleep and junk food. So I think it confers respect in the field you worked in. That is the point why you do it. It does not make you a better or more sensible diver in fact it is not really relevant for diving. But it confers respect. I do not know if George is after such a title as he has enough credit already (And is earning more with every dive he does). But if he ever decides to submit a thesis I really want to read it. As he is one of the few divers who pushes barrieres in a sensible way and thinks about the results he gets out of it. He probably would have enough data to write a thesis on it. Mr Black's MD is certainly well earned but it is not relevant for his diving expertise. I will not critisize him as he shurely is a much more experienced diver than me. But I learned more from posts of George or MHK and various others than from him.
