Jeff > I do not think you need to do deep air any more to do trimix. I do not know how deep "deep" really is. I have to talk to the instructor about it. But as I said I do not mind the course, when it helps me to get rid of deep air finally. > Legally, I would take it up with the guys teaching. I do not think that this would be necessary. Most instructors are nice guys and a most of them are much brighter and more sensible than the white noise in the Tec-list tells us. So I am looking forward to do all the courses I need and get certified. > Does the TDI Extended Range Course still involve an air dive to 55m? Don't know. I did some dives to more than 50m on air. I do not have any problems doing these courses. I did not feel particular bad on deep dives or after it. But I realized they are dangerous and there is a better way to do it. That's why I want to try mixed gases. It is just rather cynical that if you want to try out a saver way of diving some agencies require you to do all the stupid things, you want to avoid, first. The instructor I spoke with about the He-course is ANDI (there seem to be countless agencies). I do not know what is teached in his "deco course" (that is the name I gave it). Maybe this course just involves dive planning and doing deco dives in the 40m range. Which still would be in the recreational limits. (Maybe not PADI limits, but I am not PADI certified) As I said I need to talk to him. I will do that as soon as I find the time. As I pointed out, he seems to be quite sensible. I certainly can improve my skills a lot by learning from him.
