I'm very interested to see if there is a way to simplify the use of trimix for divers diving within recreational ranges who are not doing decompression. If some rigor can be created, including standard mixes, and a course similar to the current enriched air nitrox course, I think it could work. I hear two things from my friends who are thinking about diving deeper: 1. The training to get to dive trimix costs too much. 2. The cost of trimix is too high. I can only hope that their solution if this is the case is to stay shallower. Since I know that not all of them will stay shallower, and certainly some of the people I have NO influence over all over the world will exceed a prudent depth for air, I would like to see trimix instruction more accessible to them, less costly, with fewer pre-requisites. The GUE approach of introducing trimix in Tech 1 is a good start. I'd also like to see a recreational diving only use of trimix, with no-stop tables created for their use. I know that there is more to this task than creating EADs as with nitrox tables, but I think it can be accomplished. While many recreational divers are not prepared for the discipline involved with using nitrox or trimix, many divers CAN understand the requirements and remain within them. The argument that they couldn't was one reason nitrox was labelled "devil gas" when it was first introduced to recreational divers. I think it is no more valid to say that all recreational divers would have trouble with the restrictions implicit in diving trimix than to say that they would have trouble with the restrictions involved in diving nitrox. I like what I'm reading here about ways to standardize and simplify the use of trimix for recreational depths. I think it's a good direction for diving in general. It's not really taught or endorsed by the "mainstream" (read all other than GUE) agencies so it must be witchcraft voodoo shit diving. It shouldn't be used because Brett & Tom haven't put their stamp of approval on it. Spend a minute and LISTEN and THINK and you will see this mix is great for those in-between dives that used to be reserved for air. It wipes out the narcosis and still gives good NDL's. It is also easier to decompress from since He is a faster gas than N2. Wake up and breathe the He. Don -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
