I have dived the Regina numerous times. It is a steel freighter which sank
in the "Big Storm" of 1913. It lies in 72 feet of water in the Sanilac
Shores area of Lake Huron (about 30 minutes drive north of Port Huron,
Michigan).

It is inverted, and has a large opening in the mid-section which can be
penetrated. Most charter operators who visit the wreck allow penetration
only for wreck diving classes. The cargo from the wreck is not usually seen
by divers (even inside). The wreck is in an underwater preserve, so the
artifacts are not usually an enticement to divers.

2 Divers Die in Lake Huron

..c The Associated Press

PORT SANILAC, Mich. (AP) - Two divers drowned while exploring an 87-year-old
shipwreck in Lake Huron.

Sheriff's Sgt. Garry Biniecki said the divers' gear had apparently gotten
tangled in the debris 78 feet down.

James Coleman, 52, of Napoleon, Ohio, and Luke Lollini, 57, of Peninsula,
Ohio, were found over the weekend. A search party had set out for the two men
Friday afternoon after the Coast Guard received a report that they were
overdue by about an hour.

The divers were exploring the wreck of the Regina, a 250-foot Canadian
steamer that went down in 1913 during a storm while carrying cargo that
included hardware, champagne, whiskey and dishes. Fifteen crewmen died.

Both divers had extensive dive training and proper gear, Biniecki said.
