Its easy.

We divers vote with our wallets. Bottom line is that our money controls this
sport.

Quit buying shit gear, quit patronizing shops that are known rip off's.
Drive a little further to go to a good shop.
Put the word out about bad experiences, as well as good. Usually, a few
names keep coming up on booth sides of the fence. Weed out the bad ones.

Make it known, in no uncertain terms, that our money is spent on what we
want to buy, not what they want to sell us. Make it known, by not taking any
of the sales based training, that we are smarter (and reading information
*not* sold to us by "them") and that 30 courses, where three would do, isn't
going to float.

The internet is changing the face of diving. This is one source of
information that marketing interests don't control. All the magazines
commonly available are paid for by advertising, and the content is
definitely focused on sales, and controlled 100% by advertising. Which is
why you *never* see anything about GUE, DIR, WKPP in them, just *hundreds*
of bullshit, already done too many times, articles on Bonaire, the Caymans,
etc.

Call bullshit when you see it.

I have a buddy that just got his ass reamed for going to a pool session
(that he was invited to) with his DIR
Halcyon rig. The instroketor reamed him for showing up in gear like that,
and "stuff we don't sell".

Par for the course.

Scott
