Since there was "no" N2 or He entering their tissues, they were leaving faster. From what Jim tells me, Sheck swore by this practice, and I think Hamilton was in charge of determining [Sheck's] mixes. It is important to note that there is very little, if any, published data about other than N2 and He diffusion rates. Comex is working with the deep mixes (Hydrox, Hydreliox), but I can't find any references for Ar, Xe, etc. It is generally believed to be slower and is known to be more narcotic (re: previous posts). If anyone has this info, or good ref's or both, please send them to me. Also, since Sheck didn't use the deco mixes, Argox was _not_ used by him on that day. I personally am a little skeptical about using untested gases on myself as a Guniea pig, but some don't mind. Jim did have a shoulder (type I) hit and had to perform IWR for about 3 hours too. Could this have been an "Argon hit?" Just a thought. Maybe some of the deco guru's could shed some light. just my $0.02 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Carl W.
