"Double D-rings were the first quick release system used in diving"

I have an old diving manual from the 50's that shows you how to make a quick
release buckle from a brass hinge. Pull the pin out of the hinge and the buckle
falls apart.

Sorry this post should have said that the double D-rings were quick release
but NOT quick connect.
