What I mean is, take the average techdiver's setup that obviously isn't well thought out at all. Stream-line the gear, change the harness to a 3 d-ring, no quick disconects, breathe the long hose... presto. You're Hogarthian. It is named after William Hogarth Main who started diving that "minimalist" system. Now, DIR starts with attitude. Don't dive with anyone unsafe. Always plan your dive. Now you throw out the bungee wings, the posseidons, the dive-computer, etc. You get a proper wing, regs, hose-routing, etc. Basically similar gear to George. Now you're on your way to DIR diving. DIR is Hogarthian. Hogarthian isn't necessarily DIR. ss In the above, one's can read "...throw out the bungee wings...". That means "remove the bungee that reduce the wings volume when deflated" or "don't use a so tight bungee" or what?
