When I first started diving, our harnesses were fastened with double D-rings and I have never seen one fail. In the intervening years I had almost forgotten about them. I hate plastic buckles and the only reason I am still using one on my crotch strap is that that is the only way the manufacturers supply them. I just have not had the time to make up something better. I have been going back and forth between the DIR style of crotch strap and the off-the-shelf quick release type and have not really been happy with either one.
