Dear List =A0 This little diatribe, like many of the others we have seen over the = last week, makes many assumptions but gives no real basis for the = assumptions that are made. In short it is full of shit. =A0 The basic premise overlooks the simple fact that some people make = decisions on grounds other than purely economic ones. Some people decide that = they will accept a slightly higher base cost for a thing if there are = advantages in quality, safety or elsewhere. This is obvious in the case of the = WKPP's activities when one considers their attitude to trimix as opposed to = air and the level of helium they advocate in their standard mixes. If they were purely motivated by penny pinching considerations as suggested by Mr = Morin they would be advocating deep air to 200' and less He in the mixes = below 200'. Not quite what I have seen on this list and on the WKPP web page. Pretty well anathema to what George advocates.=20 =A0 OK Mr Morin how about an answer to the frequent requests for you to = list the sources of the research that shows that EAN 36 and 80/20 are the ant's = pants in decompression? How about you tell us why using 80/20 does not = involve backgas breaks but can get you out of the water safer and quicker than = 100% in situations where those on 100% need backgas breaks? This has been requested several times in the last few days, but I am yet to see you respond - how about it? =A0 No, before you go off on a tangent slinging accusations of = inappropriate interest in my general direction, I am not associated with the WKPP or Halcyon or EE. I am interested in DIR diving and I do subscribe to the = GUE magazine, although I am not a member of GUE - not much point they don't = have a presence here in Australia. =A0 Steven Bliim -----Original Message----- From: Guy Morin [mailto:xnet@vi*.ca*] Sent: Monday, 4 September 2000 23:33 To: Techdiver Subject: 80/20 deco and financing. To make sure we are clear here on costs associated=20 with either decompression option, the WKPP, or=20 any other organization aren't immune to cost.=20 The pretension that the WKPP doesn't care about=20 the cost of it's operation is fantasy.=20 Anyone who claims that WKPP has infinite resources=20 is dreaming in full color.=20 Any undertaking is sensitive to costs, and anyone who affirms=20 that this is not the case is suffering from severe delusions.=20 As a case in point, let us all remember that even the=20 most extravagant undertakings in history, let's take=20 going to the moon as a perfect example, are centered=20 around the lowest bidder. Need anything more be said?=20 If you were looking at competing decompression strategies=20 for any project, this would be the first item of interest to=20 the shareholders.=20 The very basic lesson in economics is over, you simpletons=20 who promote this myth that WKPP has infinite resources=20 should stay in bed, or get yourself some coffee.=20 Why else does the WKPP create organizations like extreme=20 exposure, and halcyon, and guess but to fund their exploration.=20 This is what they say, right?=20 So, costs matter, and are likely to be fundamental drivers of=20 their decompression strategy, and that, dear friends is=20 just reality. You may not want to hear this, not even=20 accept it, but at the end of the day, every organization=20 on the face of the planet is accountable.=20 In the end, it's all about financing their little project. Altruism=20 isn't in the recipe.=20 BTW, folks who say that cost doesn't matter, obviously=20 can't manage.=20 --=A0 Guy =A0=20 -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
